Summer Fair Results

The 2009 Summer Fair Beach Party made just over £2,000 to go towards the Herne Pool Appeal.

The rain and slight nip in the air added to the "brollies and windbreaks" British beach feel of the day.

22nd May at 3.25PM watch Acting Head Teacher David Pinard get Grunged in aid of FOHS.

The more we donate, the more gunk he gets on him.

Car Wash and BBQ

The school choir will be washing cars in the playground (supervised by an adult) while you enjoy the afternoon sun (we hope) and a NNQ.
Funds raised go towards the Years 5 & 6 choir trip to the O2 arena.

AGM - Wednesday 24th September 2008

AGM followed by an ordinary meeting.

Time: 7PM - 10PM
Location: Herne School Music Room*

This is an opportunity to hear and see how the funds you have helped raise have been used for the benefit of the children at our school. It is also an opportunity for you to elect the PTA Committee to represent the association through the next academic year.

Everyone welcome - both new and existing Herne parents. Complimentary wine for all attendees.

(*The Music Room is the portacabin on the right-hand side of the playground as you walk in through the gate.)

Odd Sock Day - Friday 13th June

Wear odd socks to school this Friday (13th June) to remind you to bring in you to bring non-perishable tombola and raffle prize donations for the summer fair. These could be toiletries and/or non-perishable food and drinks.

Any adults who can spare anything from 20 minutes to a few hours helping with the fair preparation on Odd Sock Day, please come to the main school entrance to find us. (Odd socks optional!)

Auction of Promises Rearranged

The Auction of Promises has beeen rearranged to appear at the Herne School and Whitehill School Summer Fairs in June, under a sealed bid system.

The football tickets (match between England and USA in May 2008) can be bid on immediately, using sealed bids via the school office.

Letters regarding this are being distributed this week.

Quiz Night - Friday November 16th

Yes, it's that tme of year again. Time to put on your thinking cap and join your friends for a fun evening of general knowledge, useless trivia, hot food and prizes.

Please come along and support your school and we'll guarentee you a good time in return.

Teams can have up to eight people on them, with prizes for the top three teams, so get swotting!

We will supply a hot meal of jacket potato with salad and a choice of filling (cheese, tuna, baked beans of chilli). There will be drinks (including beer, wine and soft drinks) to wash it down.

All raffle prize donations gratefully received.

Doors: open from 7.00PM, quiz starts at 7.30PM sharp.
Tickets: £5 per person.
Cheques to 'FOHS'.

The Friends of Herne School would like to invite Herne parents to the FOHS AGM.
Date: Wednesday, 19th September
Time: 7.30PM
Location: School Activity Room

The Friends of Herne School play a vital part in the school community and all parents are automatically members when they join Herne School. As members of the PTA, you are invited to support the AGM. This is your chance to hear and see how the funds you have helped raise have been used for the benefit of the children at our school.

The AGM is also an opportunity for you to elect the PTA Committee which will represent the association throughout the coming academic year.

Being a member of FOHS is much more than just fund raising, it provides closer links between home and school and is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially. Everyone works towards a common goal – in support of the school.
It’s also fun! It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even if you can’t come into school. There are always jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare, such as wrapping prizes or preparing raffle tickets.

Would you like to get involved with FOHS with as little or as much responsibility as you choose? Become a Committee member or an Event Helper.

Being a Committee Member involves coming to meetings which are usually held once every term (using the six term calendar), helping to organise or run events and choosing how the money raised should be spent. FOHS is a registered charity so all Committee Members are automatically trustees of the charity.

Event Helpers are involved with the work before during and after an event but do not come to meetings. When an event is organised, Committee Members contact Event Helpers to involve them.

If you would like to be either a Committee Member, an Even Helper or just come along to the AGM to see what’s what, please contact FOHS via admin@fohs.info.

Cost: £2.00 (includes drink and packet of crisps) - cash only, please.

Extra drinks and crisps available to purchase.

Please hand in a permission slip in a sealed envelope marked 'CINEMA NIGHT' by Friday, 13th September to school reception.

The permission slip should state the following:

"I give permission for my child (insert your child's name) of Class (insert your child's class) to watch the PG rated film 'Mr Bean Goes on Holiday'."

.......and add:
(1) Your child's name.
(2) Your child's class.
(3) Your contact number.
(4) Your name (block letters).
(5) Your signature.
(7) The date.

PLEASE NOTE
In order to adhere to performance rights requirements, Cinema Night is only available to Herne Junior School pupils.

HELP NEEDED!
Please also let FOHS know via the slip if you can help at the Cinema Night. Without help from a sufficient number of parents, the Cinema Night can't run.
